What We Do

The San Clemente Educational Foundation is designed to enhance the educational programs at San Clemente High School.  It is our academic booster club. The goal of the foundation is to support student success to ensure all students reach their maximum potential. The programs that the foundation fund range from basic academic support to college readiness.   The foundation offers community members and parents a vehicle to directly impact the learning and the success of all students at SCHS. Through tutorial support, college guidance and parent information nights, our families are afforded the tools to ensure that their postsecondary aspirations become reality.

OUR PROGRAMS

Our motto at SCEF is “WORLD CLASS EDUCATION – IT’S UP TO US”. While we are lucky to have great local public schools in San Clemente, it is not possible within the constraints of current state funding to provide all the academic support our students deserve. SCEF’s mission, therefore, is to work with the local community to raise supplemental funds to help San Clemente High School achieve “World Class” status in academics.

SCEF funds programs designed for our highest achieving students, for those struggling to just get by, and for all those in between. To name just a few, we fund four times a week tutorial sessions in all academic subjects; four year curriculum planning; college and career planning; college admissions seminars and application workshops; and support for Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and AVID programs.

How does SCHS Educational Foundation help students?

Academic Support

After School Tutoring

SCEF funds four times weekly after school tutoring sessions of 1.5 hours duration, staffed by SCHS teachers covering all the major academic subjects. Each year, over 10,000 hours of tutorial are provided at no cost to the students.

  • Hours of Operation – Monday – Thursday from 3:30-5:00 in front of the Library
  • Open for all grades and subject matter

After School Tutoring

Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate Test Prep

SCEF funds after school review seminars in all subjects to fully prepare students for national and international testing in 24 advanced subjects.

  • Scheduled in April by individual Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate teachers.  Sessions take place after school.

AP and IB subjects require passage of a year-end test for the student to receive program and college credit for the subject. Prior to the test, SCHS’ AP and IB teachers conduct after school review sessions to maximize their students’ preparedness. SCEF funds the cost of teachers’ participation.

Freshman Focus

A trained SCHS teacher meets individually with freshman students and their parents to identify college goals and develop a four year curriculum plan that will qualify the student for admission if satisfactorily completed. Last year, 120 students took advantage of this free service.

  • Hours of Operation – Meetings are by appointment after school
  • This program is designed for accelerated freshman and their families.  Counseling sessions are held in Little Theater Office 5.  Parents and the student are to attend the session.

Field Trip Support

SCEF provides funding on a scholarship basis to ensure all students have access to field trips and academic competitions conducted for academic purposes.

AVID Funding Support

AVID is a program designed to help students whose family history does not include college experience. SCEF funds two or three field trips to local universities designed to enhance the college ambitions of AVID students.

  • These visits are for AVID students only

ACADEMIC DECATHLON FUNDING SUPPORT

Academic Decathlon is a program which allows SCHS students to compete in an academic competition against their peers from other high schools. SCEF subsidizes program expenses.

Innovative Programs

Classroom Chromebooks

Our Chromebook drive continues to be a huge success, with a total of 600 Chromebooks purchased by SCEF so far. Our goal is to be at 1200 so every student has the opportunity to work on one.

Purchase of supplemental classroom books and materials

SCEF purchases classroom books to supplement the textbooks provided by the District.

Innovative Programs

SCHS Faculty and Administrators propose and/or approve all new programs for funding by SCEF. Sometimes these programs are of an “R&D” nature – they need to be tweaked and proven sound before they are adopted for sustained funding. Current examples of programs previously developed as R&D include Tutorial and Freshman Focus. Link Crew Peer Tutoring is currently funded under this budget category.

Link Crew Peer Tutoring

This program extends availability of tutorial assistance from two to four afternoons per week. Unlike our regular tutorial, which is conducted by SCHS faculty, Link Crew Peer Tutorial is conducted by advanced students in each academic area, who receive community service credit. SCEF funds one SCHS teacher to oversee and administer the program during its service hours.

San Clemente Educational Foundation's Unique Value

“No other high school in our district is able to offer this kind of attention to its students for college and career preparation – thanks to the support of the San Clemente Educational Foundation.“
